Borovets is the oldest Bulgarian ski resort, known from its inception in 1896, when the mayor of Samokov built a wooden shack, to ease his wife which suffered from tuberculosis. Nowadays Borovets is the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria. Spread out on the border the cols of Borovets and on the slopes of Moussala of the Rila Mountain among eastern pine forests. Its altitude is from 1230 to 1390 m and the climate - one of the healthiest. In the summer temperature is average 15.2 ° C and winters are mild and snowy (the average January temperature is 4.8 ° C).

Borovets is associated with a 1st class road network to Samokov (12 km), Sofia (72 km) Kostenets station (27 km), Dupnitsa (52 km). There is a bus transport to them by buses to Samokov running every 40 minutes.
